The denomination

Since ancient times, farms were structured in farmhouses that were they were self-sufficient through crops and products derived from cattle and sheep; are the surpluses of the milk obtained which allowed the elaboration of these cheeses. From the 80s, due to the requirements of the hygienic and sanitary regulations, The first professional cheese factories dedicated to the production and commercialization of cheese began to be created. same.

The evolution of this cheese over time was given the definitive boost by the creation of the Afuega'l Pitu Protected Designation of Origin in 2003, through which the production of this cheese in the traditionally producing geographical areas and with the techniques of deep-rooted elaboration of these places.

 
 

Regulation

The Regulations for the Afuega'l Pitu Protected Designation of Origin were approved in Resolution of August 6, 2003 of the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Fisheries of the Principality of Asturias and subsequently ratified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in June 2004.

Finally, the Specifications for the PDO Afuega'l Pitu, was published, and the PDO registered in the register of Protected Designations of Origin and Geographical Indications of the European Union on July 26, 2008.

 REGULATORY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
